The University-wide Committee on Ethics envisions an ethics-based education.
New ethical challenges are emerging in all fields. Students, faculty, and staff need to be equipped to identify and address them. An integrated approach to ethics embodies the best of Tufts' educational mission and goals.
Mission:
To foster an integrative approach to ethics discourse and to serve as a resource to the University for ethics-related issues in teaching, research, and practice.
The Committee's goals and activities include:
- Surveying and promoting ethics education, policies, and instructional activities across the university.
- Setting goals for an integrative program that would coordinate and enhance existing programs, and set a new vision for applied ethics education and for meeting federally-mandated requirements across the university.
- Evaluating existing resources and assessing needed resources for teaching ethics in research and clinical contexts, for fulfilling federal mandates in developing competencies in responsible conduct of research, and for addressing conflicts of interest both individual and institutional.
- Developing the capacity to anticipate new ethical dilemmas in the professions and in higher education through a forum for discussing current ethical issues and controversies in the various professions represented by all the schools.
- Providing resources and techniques to faculty responsible for ethics education who have not had experience teaching, analyzing, or solving ethical problems.
